What will be wrong with the upcoming Noah movie?

Just watched the trailer, as I was very curious to know how such a film might look. I’ll be honest, it looked terrific. But I knew I’d have to take that with a pinch of salt, due to the fact that — as far as I know — Darren Aronofsky (the writer and director) is not a believer.

Turns out my fears may be right, as the Wikipedia page tells us not only that it is the people’s ‘mistreatment of the Earth’ that has damned them, but also that Noah ends up ‘approaching a race of giant six-armed angels known as the “Watchers” to rally them to his cause’. Hmmm…

There is nothing in God’s word about any of this. Do you think that perhaps the film’s spin on the account may be an attempt at preaching to us that we are mistreating the earth and that our earth will be flooded? No, surely not!

As for these giant six-armed angels, it looks like these are based on accounts from the apocryphal book of Enoch.

Genesis chapter six tells us that the flood came because ‘the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence’ as well as the fact ‘they married whoever they chose’. God’s judgement was more to do with their mistreatment of each other, and ignorance of how God saw things. No mention of their treatment of the earth.

But we’ll see.

Anything is better than people thinking of Noah’s Ark as this:

* Note the Unicorn on board.
