We had a great meeting at church on Tuesday night when three different missionaries came to speak to us about their work. One was from Christian Witness to Israel (evangelising Jews); another was from IFES Ireland (reaching students with the good news there); and the other was planning to work in Senegal with WEC. Continuing on that theme I was most encouraged the next day at Keswick in Llandrindod Wells to hear from a missionary to China. He spoke very positively about how God is working there. There are millions upon millions of people turning to follow Jesus in China.
Hearing these four people speak so passionately about sharing the truth with others was very heartening. I get the impression from the way things are developing in the UK and in the West as a whole is that Christianity is on the decline, but the image elsewhere in the world is dramatically different. We discussed in the car on the way back the fact that it is not cosmetic changes that turn people to Christ. We don’t need to market Christianity in a new way at all, rather it is God who changes hearts.
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. (Ezekiel 36)
